One of the days that interested me was July 31 – “Why happy kids become happy adults”. The author of the article, Lauren Klein, suggests how happiness starts at a young age.
Here are a few things you can try to make sure your kids are happy:
1. Encourage your kids to smile.
There’s nothing that expresses happiness more than a smile. There are many reasons to smile, and even the act of smiling can make you happy. Need some ideas to start you off? Find some here.
2. Encourage your kids to find activities and subjects that interest them.
By now, you probably know that doing something you enjoy makes you happy. Are your kids doing what they enjoy? If they haven’t found something they enjoy, maybe it’s time to help find activities that make them happy. If they’re not enjoying any particular subject in school, maybe try the approach or help them find at least an area of the subject that they like.
3. Try going somewhere with them.
Maybe it’s time for a trip to the outside. Why don’t you take your kids somewhere? Sometimes, I find that a change of environment to get out of a daily routine is needed to come back home and feel happier with what I’m doing.
4. Think of your fond childhood memories.
What did you enjoy as a kid? Maybe your kids can try doing what you enjoyed the most when you were younger. It might not be much, but that’s okay. It’s not too late to give it a try.
5. Encourage your kids to take a break sometimes.
Especially in today’s competitive environment, many kids feel that they have to be working every second they’re awake. While it’s important to not blatantly waste time, it’s important to have some time for their minds and bodies to rest once in a while during the day to replenish their energy and increase their productivity while working. Not only will they be happy with their periodic breaks, but they’ll also be happy with the results of their fruitful efforts.
While you’re trying to make sure your kids become happy adults, don’t forget to make sure you’re making yourself happy in the process. If you don’t have kids and/or you want to be happier yourself, I think it’s never too late, and you can try some of these things yourself! Don’t forget to Smile 4 a While!
